Trieste sits right on the Slovenian border, so a single day in port is enough to see a second country. With your own driver you leave when you want, stop where you like and are always back at the ship on time, without the crowds of a 50-person coach.

Ljubljana: Slovenia’s small, green capital

Ljubljana is a relaxed, walkable city with a castle on the hill and cafés along the river. About 1 hour 15 minutes from the port by motorway. A boat ride on the Ljubljanica river is an easy way to see the old town, and your driver can drop you in the centre and wait while you explore.

Good for

First-time visitors who want a city, food and history, with little walking uphill.

Lake Bled: the postcard view

The lake with a church on an island, below the Julian Alps. About 1 hour 45 minutes from Trieste. Walk part of the lake path, take a traditional pletna boat to the island, and try the local cream cake. Ljubljana and Bled can be combined in one long day if your ship stays until the evening.

Piran and the Slovenian coast

A Venetian-style fishing town on a small peninsula, about 45 minutes away. Narrow streets, a seaside square and seafood restaurants on the waterfront. A good half-day trip, and easy to pair with the salt pans or the coastal town of Izola.

Close to Trieste: Miramare Castle and Postojna Cave

  • Miramare Castle: a white 19th-century castle on the sea, 15 minutes from the port, with free gardens and a museum inside.
  • Postojna Cave: one of Europe’s largest show caves, about 45 minutes away. A small train takes you inside; bring a jacket, it is cool all year.

How a private day trip works

  • Tell us your ship’s arrival and all-aboard times and where you would like to go.
  • We plan the timing so you are back at the terminal with a safe margin.
  • Your driver meets you at the terminal exit and stays with you for the day.
  • One price for the whole vehicle, agreed in advance.

Because every day trip is different, we price them individually. Send us your plan on WhatsApp and we reply with a fixed quote.

Questions travellers ask

Will I be back at the ship in time?

Yes. We plan backwards from your all-aboard time with a comfortable margin, and your driver keeps an eye on traffic during the day.

Do I need my passport to visit Slovenia?

Slovenia and Italy are both in the Schengen area, so there are no border checks, but always carry your passport or ID card when you leave the ship.

Can we visit Ljubljana and Bled on the same day?

Yes, if your ship is in port for about 9 hours or more. Otherwise choose one and enjoy it without rushing.
